Blog UpdatesI've noticed among my friends (and self) that keeping a blog updated is not a high priority. This wouldn't be so obvious if this blog software didn't highlight the date. I mean, sometimes the date is interesting, but if it's more than a month ago, does it matter as much? Civic DutyI went to the court house on Monday to do my civic duty as a juror on a trial. I jokingly told my new team mates that I was probably too opinionated to be selected for a jury. Little did I realize how correct I was. After interviews all morning and a bit after lunch, I had no sooner moved into the jury box and sat down to enjoy the nice squishy chair, which was much more comfortable than the courtroom pews, than the Defence thanked me and asked me to leave.
I thought I would be a great juror, and was looking forward to a nice short trial. When I got back to the main jury room, the woman told me (and the others from my trial who had been banished) that we were free to go, our services were no longer required. I was disappointed, but it works out best in the end, since I have so much work to do at work.
I hope they call me up again, I would like another shot. First dayI'm now an analyst for a consulting company. It's a great team of people, I just started today, and WOW am I impressed already! They had their monthly company meeting, where they introduce the new hires, talk about the company's progress, and then read all the kudo emails that have come in for various employees and project teams from either other employees or customers. I was amazed at their culture and how strongly they want to keep it going! There are a lot of smiling people around, it's a bit unnerving, but I think I'll get used to it. New AdventureI'm leaving my current job in 4 days! I'm so excited for vacation and a new position. The new company continues to amaze me as I learn more about it. YIPPEE!!! It's quiet - too quietMany of my coworkers are at a conference this week. I wonder... Does that mean I'll have a slow week and actually get some of these things done that I keep trying to do? Or will it be a mad house because they're all gone? It was kind of nice to come in to work and not see a whole lot of emails (well, I did glance this weekend, but I didn't look closely ;). Dust off this blogThis hasn't been updated in MONTHS! I'm not a voracious blogger, but if messenger is going to put a link to this from my contact, I should at least make an effort to update this once in a while. But what to blog that I don't put in another blog? I already have a WoW blog, a personal blog, and a travel blog. This was my "test out a new service and see what it's like" blog, trying to be a good citizen and contribute to the stock price of MSFT. What would be appropriate for the first impression someone who just added me to their contact list be? Or, if a current contact is surfing their contact list to kill some time, what would I want them to see? Do I care? Of course I care about people. But... ;) New limitation discoveredI can only create 11 lists, and after that it stops me from creating any more. New Feature issuesIn Blogspot, I can change the date/time. This is good when I have written things off line and then want to paste them in to the blog. I should be able to change the date/time to reflect when I actually wrote the information down. 8,370 for sarahcI was surfing MSDN for some information about Whidbey, Longhorn, Avalon and such "hot topics" and noticed all the resources I was finding came from people's blogs. Pretty cool, if you ask me, those are just Microsoft employees trying to help the general public or get their next promotion. But I started thinking about aliases and decided to do a search on mine. According to Google there are 8,370 for sarahc, references. I know my name is not unique, but geez, that's one way to make myself feel like a number in a crowd. Except that I didn't find anything related to me, which is even worse. Who knew there were so many sarahc's in London? Additional BlogsThere are times when I want to create another blog, such as a separate page for all my personal quick links. However, it looks like I can only have one blog and one page with this service. Blogspot allows multiple blogs to be created, and I use that functionality. List OrganizationWhat is missing from the lists you ask? Let me tell you. The ability to move the links up or down in the list. Even Alphabetical sort would be better than simply the order I entered them in. Still playing aroundI like how easy it is to move the modules around and to customize the look. I looked at some other people's blogs, and they're using this for some fun stuff. I will have to try the email blog update feature when I get a chance. Trying out the new serviceJust what my friends want, another place to see me blog! ;) I like the interface, it's nice how everything is in one place, and so far it seems to have good discoverability. This would be better if it had more of a blogspot attitude towards names, instead of http://spaces.msn.com/members/alias, use http://alias.spaces.msn.com. That would be easier for my friends to remember, if they are not already familiar with this service. The photo upload experience wasn't bad, but where will my photo display? I just see it listed at the bottom. What's with the 10 mb limit here? Is that just temporary? My hotmail account just got upgraded, couldn't I dedicate some of that space to my photos instead of my email? |
